The 2025 wetsuit collection campaign closes with 246 suits recovered

The Costa Brava Sub Diving Centers Association has closed the 2025 used neoprene collection and recycling campaign with a total of 246 recovered neoprenes, a figure very similar to that of the previous year (253 in 2024), which consolidates this initiative as a stable action within the sector's environmental commitment.

A commitment to an always blue sea

With the aim of contributing to an always blue sea, the association has been promoting different actions for years under the umbrella of ecodiving and ecoguidance, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of underwater activity and promoting good practices among centers and divers.

Neoprene, an essential material in the manufacture of diving suits, is made from petroleum derivatives and has a significant environmental footprint, in addition to being difficult to recycle. Disused suits often end up in selective textile collection, without specific treatment.

In this context —and taking into account that the textile industry is considered by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) as the second most polluting in the world after the oil industry— the association wanted to focus on this material.

Collection at associated centers

From June to September, used neoprene could be deposited in specific containers installed at associated centers.

In 2025, the campaign has also incorporated a new line of collaboration with the company 3DNewton, which reuses recovered neoprene to create sustainable merchandising products for the same centers in the sector, such as key chains, diving mask straps or bags, thus initiating a circular economy.

Continuity and consolidation

This year's results reinforce the will of the Costa Brava Sub Diving Center Association to continue to support initiatives that contribute to a more responsible underwater activity aligned with the principles of sustainability.

Each recovered wetsuit is another step towards a more circular economy and towards the protection of our marine environment.
